Arlene L. Shaffer's Obituary
Arlene L. Shaffer, age 82, of Clay Twp., passed away March 27, 2026. She was born March 22, 1944 in Marine City to the late Bruce and Dorothy Brooks.
She was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. She worked at River District Hospital for many years and helped deliver many babies there and later worked and retired from the Red Cross.
She worked very hard as a single mother to raise her son, Robert “Bobby” Shaffer who preceded her in death in 2009.
Arlene was a woman of strong faith and belonged as very active member of the Algonac Church of Christ for many years. She enjoyed traveling which included going to Greece and Spain.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Debbie Osborne, David Meldrum, Dan (Janice) Papiernik, Tami Sandoval and James Macgillivray, along with several great nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her cousin; Denny (Carol) Brooks and close friends and caretakers; Iain (Pam) Avers and Jake (Jaclyn) Allen.
She was preceded in death by her sister; Betty Papiernick, brother in-law; Tom Papiernik and niece; Patricia Macgillivray.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10 at Young-Gilbert Funeral Home, Algonac. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Clay Twp.
Visiting hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
