Conan Edward Fisher Jr.'s Obituary
Conan "Pat" Edward Fisher Jr. age 88 of Algonac, MI. passed away January 7, 2023 in Algonac. He was born March 17, 1934 in Escanaba, MI to the late Conan Edward and Lucille M. (Hoyle) Fisher. He married Cora Jean Van Damme on April 27, 1957, in Gladstone, MI. She passed away February 16, 2022.
Conan graduated from Gladstone High School in 1952, from Western Michigan University with a BS Degree in industrial arts in 1956. He then went on to Wayne State University for his Master's Degree and EDS in Technical Education.
Conan began his teaching career as a shop teacher at Stevenson, MI. in September 1956. In February 1957 he was drafted into the US Army. With 6 weeks left in his tour, he was released early to join the Algonac School System, in November 1958, who were in urgent need of a Metal Shop teacher. He left the Algonac School System in September 1964 to take a position at the Macomb County College, where he retired after 52 years of service.
At Macomb Conan was awarded the Faculty Rank of Professor in 1971. He served 7 -? years in the administration, and was granted the administrative rank of Dean of Industrial Technology. He was a member of numerous professional societies. These societies helped plan, present seminars and lectures on New Technology for the Canadian Governments, Departments of Education; U.A.W. and other schools and technical societies.
Other civic accomplishments included 3 months as a Junior Rotarian with the Gladstone Rotary Club., 4 Terms as President of the Algonac Rotary Club (last term 1971), Past President of the Downriver Community Service, Algonac/Clay Twp. Historical Society founding member and Past President, Algonac City Council Member (2 terms), Board of Director Tri-Hospital (2 terms), and a Member of the Algonac City Planning Commission.
Mr. Fisher is survived by his children Patrick C. (Martha) Fisher, Cindy J. (Rick) Hornbaker, and Paul L. (Kathy) Fisher, grandchildren Ricky Hornbaker II, Robin (Brad) Hill, Renee Hornbaker, Megan (Joe Franzoni) Fisher, Lauren (Jake) Mathieu, Christopher Fisher, Timothy Fisher, and Michael Fisher, great grandchildren Riley Hill, Lilly Hill, and Gavin Hill.
In staying with Conan's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. at the Maritime Museum, 1117 St. Clair River Dr., Algonac. Arrangements by the Gilbert Funeral Home, Algonac, MI.
