Gerald "Gary" Wonning's Obituary
Gerald “Gary” Wonning age 79 of Algonac, MI passed away September 6, 2023 in the Ascension St. John River District Hospital. He was born September 4, 1944 in Batesville, IN to the late James and Mabel (Huneke) Wonning. He married Jeanne Alice Neumann on February 2, 1991 in Shelbyville, IN.
Gary retired from the United Parcel Service (UPS) after 27 years of service and received a 25 Year Safe Driving Award. He was a life member of the Batesville, IN, Masonic lodge #668 of F & AM, and a member of the Sahib Shriners of Sarasota, FL and in 2007 became Commander of the Sahib Shriners Mariners. He became a member of the Algonac Lions Club in 2022. Gary was a member of the US Air Force Reserves.
Mr. Wonning is survived by his wife Jeanne, children Annette Wonning, Tammie (Jeffrey) Garstecki, Wendy (Brian) Blank, Krystle (Fred) Gaulter, and Ronald (Danielle) Sliwinski, a brother Paul (Lynne) Wonning, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Young Gilbert Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Algonac, MI. Visitation Tuesday 1:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM and 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday in the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Baltimore, MI, followed by a luncheon from 2:30 to 5:00 PM at the Algonac Lions Club 1905 Mill St. Algonac, MI. 48001.
