Leo Szymanski
Age 90 of Cottrellville Twp., died Friday, April 13, 2007 in Mt. Clemens.
He was born April 17, 1916 in Montreal, Quebec.
He married Josephine Jankowy on August 30, 1941. She preceded him in death August 17, 2006.
He and his wife, Josephine, owned and operated Leo's Market in Algonac for 25 years. He was always there to help anyone who did not have the funds to buy food for their family. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military police officer while in England. He retired from General Dynamics after 10 years of service.
Leo also enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting with his sons and decorating their house for Christmas.
He is survived by his three sons, Evans (Martha) Szymanski of Algonac, Carl (Wanda) Szymanski of Eastpointe, Lee Szymanski of Harsens Island and daughter-in-law, Margaret Szymanski of Algonac; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Andy (Virginia) Jankowy of New Baltimore; and one sister-in-law, Millie Hulkow of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years; his parents; and siblings.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007 in Gilbert Funeral Home. Father Tim Birney of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Algonac, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Baltimore.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
