Leroy Allen Richards Sr.'s Obituary
Leroy Allen Richards Sr., age 92, of East China Twp., passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2025. He was born April 11, 1933 in Ecorse, Michigan to the late Charles and Pearl Richards.
Leroy proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He was an Eagle Scout and later a Scout Master for 18 years with Troop 219. Leroy was an auto body repairman for many years, specializing in heavy collision. He also had the opportunity to teach his trade to others, as he traveled to many states as an instructor in collision and structural repair.
When not working, Leroy enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting and camping. He also looked forward to trips up north. He was a member of the Algonac VFW Fred Quandt Post #3901 and the Fair Haven Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Leroy is survived by his children, Jerry (Sharon) Richards, Leroy Allen Richards Jr., John (Karin) Richards, Sheila (Ed) Olszewski and Chris Richards (Luann Kleeves); daughter in law, Karen Richards; grandchildren or “grandbrats” as he would affectionately call them, Jay, Sherrie, Shannon, Michele, Jason, Amanda, Johnny, Brandon, Don, Kim, Josh, Joel, Matt and Chris; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; siblings, Harvey, Marvin, Rosemary and Sharon and his faithful furry companion, Rose.
Leroy was predeceased by his son, Robbie Richards; daughter in law, Janet Richards; 12 siblings and life long friend, John Fields.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Southeastern Michigan Conservation Club, East China Twp. on Sunday, October 19 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Young-Gilbert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Algonac.
