Nancy E. Avers' Obituary
Nancy E. Avers, age 84, passed away on April 16, 2023, peacefully at her home in Snellville, GA, with her family at her side.
She was born September 8, 1938, in Algonac, Michigan to Phoebe (Baker) and Henry Meldrum, the 14th of 15 children. She is survived by her husband Peter, of 65 years and one brother, Theodore Meldrum of Marine City, Michigan. Nancy graduated from Algonac High School in 1957 and married Peter in 1958. Nancy was selected as Algonac Lion's Club Pickerel Tournament Queen in 1957. She was also a majorette in the Algonac High School Band.
Nancy took nurses training at St Joseph Hospital in Mt. Clemons, Michigan and later cared for a quadriplegic polio victim part time in East Lansing, Michigan. Nancy was a licensed Real Estate Agent and Broker in Florida, Georgia and Virginia where she followed her husband on National Forest assignments with the U.S. Forest Service for 31 years. She was also an integral member of Avers Soil Surveys’ Inc with her husband and son Peter Jr.
She was an avid flower gardener and after retirement she assisted Peter with their sweet corn and vegetable farm in Pearl Beach, Michigan. Starting in 1992, they farmed sweet corn, pumpkins and many other vegetables in Pearl Beach MI, on the 111-year-old Avers Farm, for 25 years; traveling to Michigan from Georgia in Spring through harvest, returning to Georgia permanently in 2016.
She was a devoted mother to Christine E. Avers of Doraville, GA, Beth Ann Fisher (Keith) of Loganville, GA, and Peter Jr. (Traci) of Snellville, GA. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren Cole Fisher, Evan Avers and Chad Avers. Nancy has many friends and family who join with the family as we mourn. She is beloved and missed by all.
The celebration of Life to be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM Saturday September 23, 2023, at the Algonac Lions Club 1905 Mill St. Algonac, MI 48001, has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
