Selby "Sy" Cook and I worked together at two different advertising agencies, D.P. Brother and Young & Rubicam Detroit back in in the 1960s. We shared many things, including drinks, card games and laughs, particularly at his cottage on Lake Huron in Canada. He was a goofy old, oversized elf of a man, with a sardonic sense of humor and an eye for the absurdity of life. He probably made me laugh harder than anyone I ever knew, even when he wasn't trying to be funny. I regret we lost touch with one another over the last years of his life, but I always felt confident he was out there somewhere, probably enjoying a dry bourbon manhattan and chuckling to himself.
