James Robert "Jim" May's Obituary
James Robert “Jim” May, fondly called “PA MAY” by his family and many dear friends, age 96 of Clay Twp., MI passed away April 6, 2025, at home, after a brief illness. He was born November 28, 1928 in Marine City, MI to the late Albert and Elizabeth (nee Rose) May. He married Donna Marie Bourget on June 25, 1960 in Algonac, MI she passed away July 4, 2014.
Jim was a proud and humble man and took great pride in his family. He served with the U S Navy during the end of WWII. Being a master craftsman, he made many flag cases which he donated to many of our deceased veterans’ families. He tended bar at Vic’s Landing and was employed at Christ Craft Corp., Lumber Jack, M & D Lumber, and many of the Marinas on Harsens Island. He was a proud member of the DAV, Algonac VFW Fred Quant Post 3901, and Valor. He was a member of the Algonac Church of Christ.
Mr. May is survived by his children Sherry (Louis) LaParl and Joe (Sue) May, daughter-in-law JoAnn Cuthbertson, grandchildren Jennifer (Bob) LaParl, Louie (Nikki) LaParl, Nicole (Tim) Block, and Joe (Ava) May, great grandchildren Kyle (Tina) LaParl, Kassy (Jayson) Turner, Taylor (Devin) LaParl, Anna LaParl, Louis LaParl IV, Finley May, Teagan Block, and Willow Block, great great grandchildren Hanna LaParl, Ellie LaParl, and Lucas LaParl, brother-in-law Lee Chaney, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son James Sammons, and siblings Gordon May, John T. May, Kenneth May, Rosemary Springer and Helen Patrick.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM, with visitation from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Saturday May 3, 2025 in the Algonac Church of Christ. Military honors will be rendered following the church service at the Algonac VFW Post 3901.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Algonac Church of Christ or to the Algonac VFW Fred Quant Post 3901. Arrangements by the Young Gilbert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Algonac.
