Bob Cleghorn
Wayne was my next-door neighbor and friend for the past 10 years.
I talked to Wayne on a regular basis. I enjoyed my conversations with him. He always had a story to tell or a news item to discuss in detail. He’d often start the conversation by saying “I can’t believe it!” Then I’d say “what’s going on Wayne.” Then we would get into the discussion.
Wayne liked to rally his friends from time to time to meet him at one of the local watering holes. Catch 22 was his favorite. When you arrived, he would greet you with a cold beer, a smile, and a handshake.
Wayne was a decorated Vietnam War veteran. He earned the prestigious Purple Heart Medal of Honor (wounded in action) and a Bronze Star Medal “V” Device for heroism in conflict with an armed enemy. Wayne personally witnessed many tragic events and health consequences as a result of combat missions that he performed. He proudly wore his “Combat” baseball hat and displayed his “Disabled Veteran” custom license plate on his shinny truck.
Wayne was a generous man. He loved sharing his QVC purchases and buying Lottery tickets for his lady friends at the restaurant. He loved his son and family. He was very proud of his grandsons Alex and Nick, keeping me advised on their achievements as they both completed their college educations.
The phone calls and text messages have stopped, but I will continue to think of Wayne respectfully, especially on National holidays.
Thank you for your service Wayne.
